Tom completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the School of Music – Conservatorium of Monash University in 2006, majoring in Performance (Classical Piano). During his studies Tom was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, most notably the Joan Earle Prize for excellence in piano studies, both in 2002 and 2004, and the first prize in the Monash University Concerto Competition, both in 2002 and 2006.
Since completing his studies Tom has worked as an accompanist to choirs, instrumental soloists and many of Australia’s best-known operatic and music theatre vocalists. He has appeared as an accompanist throughout Australia, and in New Zealand, Indonesia, England, Wales and Ireland. He has also regularly been engaged as a concert pianist in Australia and had the opportunity to perform as a soloist for a tour of New Zealand in 2008. Tom has given performances of major works from many composers, including Grieg, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy and Leroy Anderson. As a chamber musician Tom has performed in various ensembles throughout Australia and in Indonesia, and has given many live-to-air performances for Melbourne’s 3MBS FM, working with vocalists, in piano trios and even playing for a full-length balalaika/piano recital.
